May 14 has been named Hmong-Lao Veterans Day in the state of Wisconsin. It is a day that we celebrate and honor those who fought during the Vietnam War that were part of the Special Guerrilla Units (SGU).
This year, we celebrated and honored these individuals by partnering up with the VFW Post 7591 to provide them lunch. The event started with some moving welcoming speeches and a ceremony to honor the flags.
We ate Hmong food which was provided by the VFW and Madison Gas Electric (MGE) from Hmong Kitchen. During the downtime, there were some great traditional Hmong dances performed by the a dance group called Ntxhais Tsheej Haj.
Those who attended also had a few moments to meet some of of these great individuals to hear their stories as well as take pictures with them. We hope that this event will be something that we can continue to partner with VFW for years to come as a way to remember and honor these heroes.
